Today, the House of Representatives passed the NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) Improvement Act following a system failure that forced the FAA to issue a nationwide ground stop. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN) and Mark DeSaulnier (D-CA) would create a task force to identify weaknesses and provide recommendations to improve the stability and resilience of the NOTAM system.

“The recent nationwide ground stop due to issues with the NOTAM system underscores the importance of strengthening our aviation infrastructure. Rep. Stauber’s bill is a step toward improving the NOTAM system and maintaining the safety of our skies,” said Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) president, Capt. Jason Ambrosi. “I applaud Rep. Stauber and Rep. DeSaulnier for leading this effort and urge Congress to prioritize additional resources for the FAA to improve NOTAMs and all of the air traffic management systems necessary to keep flying safe—and America’s air transportation system moving.”
