Aero Crew News has learned from Marc Champion, VP Flight Operations and Kirk Limacher, VP Flight Ops Planning and Development at United, that due to continued new aircraft certification and manufacturing delays at Boeing, the airline will slow the pace of new-pilot hires, which includes the pause of new-hire classes during May and June. They expect classes to resume in July. Participants in United Aviate and United Military Pilot Program will remain at the top of hiring priorities.
Remaining on a path to be the fastest growing airline, United has hundreds of new planes on order but won’t grow as fast as anticipated for 2024 owed to the continuing delays at Boeing. They cite contractual deliveries for 80 MAX 10s in 2024, but those aircraft are not yet certified, and their delivery cannot be predicted.
Over 450 pilots have been added this year and United reports that they remain on track to hire over 800 by the end of April. They claim to have a robust, highly qualified candidate pool ready to meet scheduling needs for the spring and summer seasons.
For pilots, United is among the top carriers of choice due to its fleet, comprehensive global network and premier flight-training facility.
