CLEVELAND – Ultra-low fare carrier Frontier Airlines today celebrated the opening of a new crew base at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Frontier Airlines representatives, along with Cleveland Director of Port Control Bryant L. Francis, C.M., and Bonnie Teeuwen, Chief Operating Officer, City of Cleveland, participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion. The base is expected to employ up to 110 pilots, 250 flight attendants and 50 aircraft maintenance personnel within its first year of operation. Combined with airport positions, the airline is expected to generate nearly $80 million annually in local wages with further growth anticipated in the coming years.
With service on 10 additional routes announced last month, the airline will serve 30 destinations in total from Cleveland by summer, increasing Frontier’s average peak summer daily departures by 38 percent versus a year ago.
“We are thrilled to celebrate the opening of a crew base in Cleveland, which is a clear demonstration of our strong commitment to CLE now and for many years to come,” said Alex Clerc, senior vice president of customers, Frontier Airlines.
Added Steve Schuller, senior vice president, human resources, Frontier Airlines, “This new crew base will bring quality jobs to the Cleveland community and allow us to expand our affordable and convenient travel options to those across the region.”
“Today’s event brings the start of a new and more vibrant chapter for the City of Cleveland and Frontier Airlines,” said Bryant L. Francis, C.M., Director of Port Control. “We look forward to continuing to build on this partnership and deliver greater benefits to the millions of Northeast Ohio residents and visitors who look to CLE to meet their air travel needs. We are grateful for Frontier's increasing commitment to our region.”
