Las Vegas, NV – Photographer Jon Carmichael is known for capturing a famous photograph of the 2017 solar eclipse. Back then, he took that shot from a commercial Southwest Airlines flight. After hearing Carmichael’s inspiring story, illusionist David Copperfield invited him onto his private jet to help him achieve yet another impossible photograph of this year’s eclipse – the last until 2044. As a documentary team is currently creating a film about Carmichael’s life, the crew joined him and Copperfield on board the Bombardier Global Express 5000.
The flight took off on April 8, at 7:30am and traveled for 3.5 hours to Mazatlan, Mexico where the eclipse began at 11:07am PT.
David Copperfield’s next great illusion will be making the moon disappear – a project he’s worked on for 30 years. His collaboration today with Jon Carmichael was an opportunity for him to witness nature’s greatest illusion before performing his own.
