MCLEAN, VA — Nearly 450 pilots at CommuteAir, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), have ratified a two-year contract extension that delivers significant improvements to pay, benefits, and work rules. This agreement is a major step forward in the United Express carrier’s efforts to attract and retain qualified pilots in a competitive market.

“This agreement recognizes the value and professionalism of our pilots and indicates a path forward for growth and stability in regional airline contracts,” said Captain Liam Corcoran, CommuteAir’s Master Executive Council chair. “It provides immediate and long-term stability for our pilot group and strengthens our 50-seat operation. It shows CommuteAir is taking proactive steps to attract and retain the highly skilled pilots necessary for continued operational success.”

Of the 85 percent of eligible pilots who cast ballots, 87 percent voted in favor of the agreement, which demonstrates to CommuteAir management the importance of recognizing the value and expertise pilots bring to the airline.

Over the next four years, CommuteAir pilots will earn an additional $55 million in hourly rates. This translates to an average pay increase of 41.2% overall, not including the minimum $20,000 sign-on bonus for new-hire first officers. The agreement, effective this month and running through December 31, 2028, provides substantial gains, including:

Immediate Significant Pay Increases:

  • Average increase of 37.7%, and up to 44% for captains.
  • Average increase of 20.5% for first officers.
  • Annual compounding pay increases of up to 2%.

Elimination of Retention Bonus Repayment Obligations: Pilots will no longer be required to repay retention bonuses, with full elimination of existing obligations by July 31, 2025.

Enhanced Benefits and Work Rules:

  • Improved health care coverage options.
  • Improved reserve rules for better work-life balance.
  • Mandatory minimum new-hire bonus of $20,000.

ALPA has long advocated for permanent changes to salaries and work rules, warning that without these changes, pilots would continue to leave for airlines that offer better pay, working conditions, and career opportunities. This agreement positions CommuteAir pilots among the highest paid in the regional airline industry and demonstrates the company's commitment to its pilots and its passengers.
