AOPA report has found that airline pilot hiring has declined significantly, with major airlines adding 1,139 pilots in January and February 2025—a 34% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.
Full-year hiring also fell to 4,834 in 2024, down from 12,196 in 2023 and 13,128 at the peak in 2022. This reduction reflects a return to pre-pandemic demand levels, making job acquisition more challenging for pilots.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has permanently restricted non-essential helicopter operations around Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) following a fatal mid-air collision that resulted in 67 deaths.

The Canadian equivalent of the NTSB (TSB) has released a preliminary report on the CRJ900 accident in Toronto.
Summary: Investigators identified structural integrity, pilot hour requirements, and fatigue as contributing factors. The report states that the aircraft's descent exceeded the landing gear’s design limits. The first officer, who had 1,422 flight hours, was at the controls on their fifth consecutive day of flying.
