C5 Flight Operations is proud to announce that we have reached an agreement with Visionary Training Resources (VTR) to incorporate VR into our pilot training curriculum. We are the first regional airline to utilize this groundbreaking technology in a training environment. The agreement will begin with ERJ145 ground-based procedural flows, with additional opportunities to expand to multiple features, including non-normal and emergency scenarios.
VR headsets will be issued to new hire pilots during the first several weeks of their initial training, allowing them to practice flows during ground training at the location of their choice. VR will supplement our current use of Graphical Flight Simulation (GFS). The training department believes that crews will be better prepared for simulator events as a result, decreasing acclimation time and better utilizing simulator time for flight training.
Development of the VR flight deck will commence immediately and is expected to take approximately six months. Once the headsets are integrated into our new hire training, we will analyze opportunities to utilize the headsets in other training curriculums.
Adding this amazing VR technology with be another tool in our flight training toolbox. We think it will be a game-changer for us as we continue our mission to provide industry-leading training for our pilots.
