Salt Lake City, UT – Breeze Airways, the U.S.’ only NLCC, or ‘Nice Low Cost Carrier,’  announced it met the criteria to be certified by Autism Double-Checked, making it the first domestic commercial carrier to achieve this recognition. Additionally, yesterday the airline hosted a “mock boarding exercise” which invited local residents with children and young adults on the autism spectrum to experience the initial phases of the air travel through a simulated exercise ranging from check-in and security screening to boarding an aircraft. This is the airline’s third event since its inception, and the first in its home base of Provo, UT.

Breeze partnered with Autism Double-Checked in 2022, making the voluntary online training course available to all of its Flight Attendants, and has since extended the program to its Pilots.  To achieve certification, 75-percent of Flight Attendants were required to complete the training, which includes in-depth modules and materials on how to best identify and accommodate Guests on the autism spectrum and their families in order to create the smoothest possible travel experience.

“Breeze was built on the premise that air travel should be affordable and accessible for all types of communities,” said Breeze Founder and CEO David Neeleman. “In partnering with Autism Double-Checked, our hope is that we can inspire and empower this very special community to go out and experience the wonder of air travel while making memories that will last a lifetime.”

Autism Double-Checked was founded by accomplished travel professionals and parents of children with special needs. As such, Autism Double-Checked brings a deep understanding of travel industry logistics and the difficulties faced by families of individuals on the autism spectrum when traveling.

“We are thrilled to once again partner with Breeze Airways, this time at Provo Airport, to give autistic individuals and their families the valuable opportunity to practice navigating airports and air travel, stated Alan Day,  co-founder and CEO of Autism Double-Checked. “Practice, and more practice is the key to gaining comfort in travel settings, and we are proud to extend this opportunity to even more individuals and families. Breeze Airways has been a tremendous partner and has now become Autism Double Checked-certified to meet the special needs of this growing community that has been largely ignored by the airline industry.”
