    BREAKING

The US just announced a detailed ATC overhaul, endorsed by the Air Line Pilot's Association. The overhaul will require congressional approval.

The proposed overhaul includes constructing six new control centers, upgrading technology at over 4,600 locations with fiber, satellite, and wireless systems, and replacing 600 aging radars systems. The plan also aims to expand systems that prevent runway near misses. The initiative, described as a leap from 1970s-era radar to modern communication technologies, targets completion by 2028.

While the House Committee estimated costs around $12.5 billion, actual funding needs could be higher, with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy requesting full upfront Congressional funding.

The proposal is endorsed by ALPA, with ALPA President Captain Ambrosi stating " As the primary users of our shared National Airspace System (NAS), we strongly support Secretary Duffy's plan to improve our nation's air traffic control system and improve the safety of our skies.

At the time of posting, NATCA had not issued a comment on the announcement.

    BREAKING

United Airlines reportedly plans to cancel approximately 10% of its daily flights from Newark Liberty International Airport starting this weekend.

The decision stems from outdated FAA technology failures and a significant shortage of air traffic controllers, with over 20% reportedly absent from the Newark facility. These issues have led to widespread delays, diversions, and cancellations, prompting U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to propose a plan next week aimed at overhauling the nation's aging air traffic control infrastructure.

    BREAKING:

JetBlue Airways is reportedly negotiating a three-phase partnership with United Airlines, potentially leading to a full acquisition, according to sources cited by View from the Wing and Reuters .

Phase 1: Loyalty Integration The initial stage would involve a basic alliance allowing customers to earn and redeem frequent-flyer miles across both airlines. This phase would not include coordination on flight schedules or pricing, distinguishing it from JetBlue's previously blocked Northeast Alliance with American Airlines .
    Reuters

Phase 2: Strategic Partnership Building upon the initial alliance, the second phase would introduce deeper cooperation, such as codesharing and reciprocal elite status benefits. This level of integration mirrors partnerships like that of American Airlines and Alaska Airlines.
    One Mile at a Time

Phase 3: Potential Acquisition If favorable conditions persist, including regulatory support, United may pursue a full acquisition of JetBlue. This move would grant United access to JetBlue's valuable slots and gates at New York's JFK Airport, a strategic asset United has sought since exiting JFK in 2015 .

    BREAKING:

A Lufthansa flight was left without a pilot at the controls for about 10 minutes after the first officer lost consciousness while alone in the cockpit, nearly overflying its top-of-descent point.

The incident, which just came to public attention following the release of a final report, happened aboard an Airbus A321 en route from Frankfurt, Germany, to Seville, Spain, with more than 200 people on board. Everything appeared normal until roughly 30 minutes before landing, when the captain stepped out to use the bathroom. He told investigators the first officer had shown no signs of distress at the time.

But when the captain returned eight minutes later, he found himself locked out of the cockpit. Investigators later learned that the 38-year-old first officer had unexpectedly passed out while alone on the flight deck. ATC was reportedly unable to reach the aircraft. The aircraft was approaching its top-of-decent point.

The full details only came to light Thursday when Spanish investigators released their final report on the incident.
