Two separate tire incidents at Chicago O'Hare International Airport on Monday have prompted FAA investigations — one involving American Airlines, the other United.

American Airlines Flight 386, arriving from LaGuardia, blew two tires on landing around 2 p.m. Passengers deplaned via stairs and bused to the terminal. American took the aircraft out of service for inspection. Delays at O'Hare at the time were under 15 minutes.

Hours later, United Flight 739 from Omaha suffered tire damage on arrival. That aircraft's passengers also deplaned via stairs and bused to the terminal. No injuries were reported in either incident.

Neither incident is isolated. A United aircraft aborted a takeoff at O'Hare after a tire blowout less than a week earlier. Earlier in August, a Southwest jet had nose gear tire issues landing at Chicago Midway. The FAA has described blown tires at O'Hare as “rare.”

The FAA is investigating all incidents. No cause has been determined.
