Dear Readers,

Summer has a way of putting our industry on full display. The terminals are packed and the load factors are climbing toward greater than 90%. If you're flying the line this season, you already know — this is the stretch of the year when aviation works hardest to deliver on its promise of connecting people to the places, and the people, they love most.

There's something I think about every summer that goes back to watching my own father head out the door in uniform when I was a kid. Summer flying was always different. The days were longer, the cabins were fuller, and the stakes felt higher — because on the other end of every flight was someone's family reunion, someone's first trip to the ocean, someone's wedding they couldn't afford to miss. That hasn't changed in the decades since. If anything, it's only grown to include more — more people, more places and more events.

Of course, summer also brings its own operational reality. Afternoon thunderstorms build along the routes you fly every day. Ground stops ripple across the system in ways that test every bit of patience and professionalism you've got. Reserve lines get called more, rest gets shorter, and the margin for error narrows. It's not lost on any of us at Aero Crew News that the busiest season for travelers is also the most demanding season for the crews making it all happen.

So, this issue, more than most, is for you — the pilots and flight attendants working the long days, managing the delays, and still showing up with the professionalism this industry depends on. We recognize it, even when the traveling public doesn't always think to.

Whatever your summer holds — a packed schedule, a layover somewhere you've always wanted to explore, or finally squeezing in your own vacation between trips — we hope this issue gives you something worth reading on a quick break between legs.

Thank you, as always, for trusting us to be part of your career.

Fly Safe,
Craig Pieper
