The NTSB has released preliminary details on the fatal crash at Sierra Sky Park in Fresno, California, that killed a pilot and three passengers earlier this month.
Surveillance video reviewed by investigators shows the aircraft aborted its first takeoff attempt approximately halfway down the runway. The pilot then texted the plane's owner to report a radio problem, and a mechanic approached the aircraft after it was shut down.
Shortly after that interaction, the plane taxied back to the runway and departed. According to the NTSB, it climbed no higher than 30 to 40 feet above the ground before striking trees roughly a thousand feet northwest of the runway. All four people aboard were killed.
The NTSB has not stated a cause. The investigation is ongoing.
